The isolated far west of Tanzania presents a unique opportunity to escape the tourist crowds and provide the real essence of the African bush. You can see chimpanzees in their natural habitat at Gombe Stream or Mahale Mountains and trek through breathtaking forests. Kitavi is also exceptional for hippo and lion populations.

These are areas where you also get to visit the Great Lakes of the Rift Valley: Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Nyasa (Malawi) and Lake Rukwa.

Because of the extreme distances involved in visiting Western Tanzania, safaris are manily flying safaris. If you wish to see an example of both a luxury trip and a lodge trip have a look at our sample west itineraries. For more information please contact us directly and our our staff will help you design your own personal Tanzania safari selected from our wide range of locations.

Gombe is an oblong strip of rugged, mountainous terrain dominated by many steep-sided ridges and...
